Comprehensive Immigration Reform by January, promises by the President

November 16, 2012 by Thomas Geygan

Path to Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The President of the United States has promised comprehensive immigration reform after his inauguration.  The broad brush program would allow those who are here to pay back taxes, a fine and learn English, and then would get a pathway to legal status.  Those involved in criminal activity would be excluded.  The President is also quoted as wanting to make the administrative changes under DACA permanent.

A number of news reports suggested the increase interest in immigration is due to the high Latino turn out in the presidential election.  The Boston Globe went as far to state the support among Hispanics was one of the President’s keys to victory.  Each of the related stories did mention that the President made this same promise four years ago, but immigration was decided to be a lower priority.

As of today there are no bills or guidelines.  We will be watching this issue very closely and providing information to those who are interested.  If you would like to receive email updates from our office on the status of immigration reform please complete the brief form below.  We will ask that you confirm your email address and then send you information as we receive it.  We will also provide you a list currently needed document for obtaining a “Green Card”.
